Three double and one single louvred door-sets, and 120 stackable louvred panels spanned nearly 27 metres along the length of the building.
Sunray were approached by Kier to supply and install LouvreDoors and panels to the frontage of One Reading Central, a ten floor, high-spec office building in the centre of Reading.
The LouvreDoor and StackableLouvre panels needed to be functional, secure and aesthetically in line with the architecture of the building. It was imperative that the design requirements were met due to the building’s close proximity to the railway line and its visibility to thousands of daily commuters.
Kier required doorsets for the Scottish & Southern Electricity room, gas meter room and boiler room, as well as other louvred escape doors. The total product length for the project spanned nearly 27 metres, including 3 double and one single doorset. Anti-vermin mesh was specified for all LouvreDoor and blanking where necessary (blanking an escape door, ensures the operating push bar can not be manipulated from outside and provides an additional security feature).
The 120 StackableLouvre panels, were manufactured to mirror the above-window breaks, ensuring the architectural lines of the building remained consistent. Bespoke louvre panels with a special sill detail were also created to bridge the area between the LouvreDoor and the stone cladding on either side. All LouvreDoor and panels were powder coated in stone grey to blend in with the surrounding stone cladding.
The resulting installation seamlessly blended functionality and security with the overall aesthetics of the building and created a high visual impact.
“Sunray brought forward our requirements with diligence and professionalism, from design interpretation through to the on-site installation of our louvres. Particular credit should be given to the site fixing team for carrying out the job with the highest regard for safety and quality”. Jeff Bettam, Section Manager for Kier Regional
